Uttarakhand is now able to officially welcome 83 major Himalayan summits for expedition climbing, which is a significant development in Mountaineering and Adventure Tourism in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made the announcement on February 3rd, 2026. The announcement includes access for climbers to the Himalayan Peaks located in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand. The summits vary in elevation from 5,700 meters to 7,756 meters. Indian climbers rejoice, as they no longer must pay any fees related to expeditions. The purpose of the initiative is to promote mountaineering and adventure tourism in Uttarakhand, create jobs for residents living in remote border areas, and establish Uttarakhand as an international destination for mountaineering in the Himalayas.
