Pilgrimage Season Begins: Char Dham Yatra 2025 Starts in the Himalayas

The much-awaited Himalayan pilgrimage, popularly known as the Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand, officially commenced on 30th April 2025 with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The sacred doors of Kedarnath Temple opened on 2nd May, while the revered Badrinath Dham is set to open on 4th May.

The Madhyamaheshwar and Tungnath temples are scheduled to open on 18th May and 20th May, respectively. Once all five temples are accessible, devotees can undertake the complete Panch Kedar Yatra through the serene Himalayan landscape.

Opening Dates of the 4 Dham Temples

The Char Dham Yatra typically spans a duration of six months, beginning with the opening of the temples in April or May and concluding with their closure in October or November, depending on the auspicious timings (muhurat).

The Closing Dates for the Char Dham temples in 2025 are as follows:

  • Yamunotri Temple: 23rd October 2025
  • Gangotri Temple: 22nd October 2025
  • Kedarnath Temple: 23rd October 2025
  • Badrinath Temple: 6th November 2025

The number of days required for the Char Dham Yatra depends on the starting point and the number of shrines you plan to visit:

Char Dham Yatra (All 4 shrines)

  • From Delhi: Minimum 12 days
  • From Haridwar/Rishikesh/Dehradun: Minimum 10–11 days

Do Dham Yatra (Any 2 shrines, e.g., Kedarnath & Badrinath)

  • From Delhi: Approximately 8 days
  • From Haridwar/Rishikesh: Approximately 7 days

Ek Dham Yatra (Any 1 shrine)

  • From Delhi: Around 6 days
  • From Haridwar/Rishikesh: Around 5 days
