The Kedarkantha Trek is a popular winter trekking destination in the Garhwal Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, India and is known for its scenic beauty and panoramic views. At a height of 12,500 ft. the trek takes you to the top of Kedarkantha peak. Beginning from the village of Sankri, at a distance of 200 km from Dehradun, the Kedarkantha Trek starts from tha base camp at the village. Since the trek will lead to a relatively high altitude, it is necessary that trekkers acclimate themselves properly to prevent any altitude related sickness. A trek of moderate difficulty, the Kedarkantha Trek is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Located close to Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand, Kedarkantha is a thrilling summit trek that offers perfect views of some well-known Himalayan peaks like the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, Ranglana of the Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges.
The trail from Sankri runs through dense Maple and Oak trees across several wooden bridges and streams. The steep ascent, gushing winds and freezing temperatures during the winters makes this the most challenging section of the Kedarkantha trek. Covering a span of 20 km the trek can be completed in a total of 6 days.
